I recently got curious about the different types of atomizers out there, and what some of the differences between them may be. I tried a 510 low resistance which ohmed out at 1.6 ohms, a 901 low resistance which ohmed out at 1.7 ohms, and a 306 low resistance which ohmed out at 1.5 ohms. I tested all of these on a fresh AW IMR 18650 in a reo grand dripping my peach DIY mix of perfumers apprentice peach mixed at 15% in a 60pg/40vg 20mg.
510- the 510 is probably the most popular atty out at the moment. It is the threading of the ego and most rivas (there is a 901 riva). On the 510 the atomizer is visible, it has a bridge, and wicking under the bridge. The ceramic cup is surrounded by the same metal mesh that wraps the bridge. The 510 gives a good amount of flavor, good TH, and a good amount of vapor. It is what I am most used to so it is hard to review it by itself, but I can use my experience with it to compare the other attys. Flavor 7, Vapor 8, TH 7
901- This atty is somewhat different in construction than the 510. It consists of an atomizer that is not visible, a bridge, and a metal ring that exposes the bridge, but covers the atomizer. I have not taken it apart yet to see the internals. There may be a wick in there? It is a different threading than the 510. The threading on the atomizer is female rather than male. I picked up an adapter to use it on my 510 threaded reo. I have to say that this 901 made me rethink the 15% flavor. I can easily get away with putting 8-10% flavoring in my juice on this atty. The flavor is amazing. The TH is not as strong as on the 510. Vapor production seems about the same or maybe a little less on the 901 compared to the 510. Flavor 10, vapor 7, TH 5
306- This atty has the same threading as the 510. The construction is very similar to the 510 atty other than the bridge is exposed. (take the tube off of a 510 and it looks like a 306). I dripped on this atty and used the blank cart that came with is because the atomizer requires a different kind of drip tip that slips over the top of it. This atty has a huge TH. There is a lot of heat and it was hard to keep it wet. The flavor was good on the 306. Vapor production was low for me just because I couldn't take big draws like I normally do.
Flavor 9, Vapor 5(for me), TH 10!!
Over all I really enjoyed the 901 and of course the 510 I have been using for quite some time. I think with the right juice the 306 would be good.
I wish I could have gotten all three attys at the same resistance so I could compare apples to apples. The 1.5 ohm may explain why I have a different experience comparing them to slightly higher ohm attys.
I think that if you are curious about these attys you should try them out for yourself. This is just my personal opinion.
